The 52 book challenge of 2012….I tried to be a well rounded reader…Mixing old with new, young adult with books way out of my league, nonfiction and fiction. Not sure if you noticed or not but I don’t quite have 52 yet. Any other suggestions for me?

If you haven’t gotten to them yet, add Hunger Games to your list.
Here are some of my favorites if you are interested:
The Road by Cormac McCarthy,
Persopolis (both books) by Marjane Satrapi
Music for Chamelons by Truman Capote
Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt
The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien
A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers
A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole.
If you have to only choose one, get the last I recommended. You’ll LOVE it.
I’m adding them all, thanks LP! I already read the Hunger Games….Can’t wait for the movies!!
You should get on Goodreads. Its a fun website to track your books and get good recommendations.
Some of my favorites:
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith
The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls
East of Eden by John Steinbeck
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
I’m going to get on there! Jane Eyre is my all time favorite book! Love it!!
I love Lois Lowry. If you haven’t read The Giver yet you should (it will take about 8 hours to read), and there are two more in the series, The Messenger, and Gathering Blue.
p.s. I love The Hatchet and The Things They Carried. I guess I love young adult books
Love the recommendations Larissa! I decided I need a “Need to Read Again” list….Giver would definitely be on that!!
I love your list, and I hope you like my suggestions. Annie Dillard’s A Pilgrim at Tinker Creek; Franny & Zooey or any Salinger, and The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen.
Well, I didn’t see this one suggested- The Book Thief by Markus Zusak – cried my eyes out but it was a great story.
Denise! That is one of my very favorite books…You have great taste!
Have you read Born to Run?
I have! Amazing book!
For childrens literature try the Chronicles of Narnia. Not at all like the Disney travesties. They are excellent and very fast reads.
Also the Poetry of A.E. Houseman is almost verdant. Try A Shropshire Lad.
Cheers.
I did a similiar challenge last year, and it was fantastic.
I would reccomend ‘To Hellholes and Back’ by Chuck Thompson, ‘The Blank Slate’ by Steven Pinker, and ‘Rubicon’ by Tom Holland.
I would definitely recommend “the outcast” by Sadie Jones – quite an easy read yet truly moving.
Not sure if you’ve ever read these but…
My Sister’s Keeper – Jodi Picoult – WAY better than the film that came out based on the book.
The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon – love, time travel, history and adventure…really enjoyable reading!
Hey Romanda, I second you on Jodi Picoult, the book was way better! Although her books sometimes leave me feeling glum. Sounds like I def need to check out the Outlander series, googling it now!
East of Eden – John Steinbeck
Seven Habit of Highly Effective People
5 Dysfunctions of a Team
Freakanomics
Wonderful recommendations! Thank you!
Here you have my recommendations, enjoy!

“The angel’s game” by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
“The prince of mist” by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
“Naive. Super” by Erlend Loe
“The alchemist” by Paulo Coelho
“11 minutes” by Paulo Coelho
I followed the breadcrumbs to your “why I run post”, felt inspired, and here I am.
I noticed Game of Thrones on your list, The Passage, State of Wonder, all some of my recent favorites. If you liked The Passage, you would really like “The Reapers Are The Angels” by Alden Bell.
Excuse the bit of self promo, but if you are interested in a book about a marathoner, check this out. The Jade Rabbit: http://www.amazon.com/The-Jade-Rabbit-ebook/dp/B005IQM8J2
Mark! The book looks amazing, I will def be purchasing in the near future. Thanks for the recommendations!
Bahahaha!! The best $500 I will ever spend! Be careful what you wish for LP, I may outdo you on your wedding day!
